Commission Terms

Commission Terms

These Commission Terms explain how commissioned artwork is created, approved, and delivered when you order a portrait from Stephen Crockett Fine Art. By proceeding with a commission, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to the terms outlined below.

1. About the Artist

Stephen Crockett Fine Art creates original, hand-drawn and painted commissioned artwork using traditional fine art materials. While the primary focus is on dog, cat, and horse portraits, commissions for other subjects may also be accepted by arrangement.

Each artwork is created individually and tailored to the client’s requirements.

2. Commission Process

To begin, clients submit an enquiry via email or the website contact form. Following this, details such as subject, size, medium, pricing, and timescales are discussed and agreed in advance.

Once all details are confirmed and payment terms are met, the commission is formally accepted and work begins. Until this point, no booking is guaranteed.

For a full overview, please refer to the Commission Process page.

3. Reference Photos

Clients must provide clear, high-quality reference photographs. These images directly influence the accuracy and detail of the finished artwork.

Where necessary, artistic interpretation may be applied to improve composition, lighting, or clarity. However, the final artwork will always reflect the reference material supplied.

4. Pricing and Payment

All prices are agreed in advance and confirmed before work begins. Prices are quoted in GBP (£).

Depending on the commission, payment may be required in full or as a 50% deposit in advance. In all cases, payment terms will be clearly communicated before confirmation. Additionally, final payment must be received before the artwork is dispatched.

5. Timescales

Estimated completion times are provided at the time of booking. However, timescales may vary depending on workload, complexity, or material availability.

Where appropriate, progress updates will be provided. While every effort is made to meet agreed timelines, completion dates remain estimates rather than guarantees.

6. Approvals and Changes

In some cases, a progress image may be shared for review. At this stage, minor adjustments may be possible at the artist’s discretion.

However, significant changes requested after work has progressed may not be feasible and could result in additional costs. Once a commission is completed, further changes cannot be made.

7. Cancellations and Refunds

Because commissioned artwork is bespoke and created specifically for each client, cancellations are generally non-refundable once work has begun.

If a commission is cancelled before work starts, any refund will be considered at the artist’s discretion. Completed commissions are non-refundable.

8. Delivery

Once complete, artwork is carefully packaged and shipped securely. UK delivery is available, and international delivery may also be offered by arrangement.

Unless otherwise agreed, all portraits are supplied unframed, allowing clients to choose a frame that best suits their space.

9. Copyright and Usage

Copyright remains with Stephen Crockett Fine Art unless otherwise agreed in writing.

However, the artist retains the right to display completed artwork on the website, social media, or other promotional materials. Clients may not reproduce or use the artwork for commercial purposes without prior permission.

10. Liability

Every effort is made to provide accurate information and a high standard of work. However, Stephen Crockett Fine Art cannot accept responsibility for delays or issues arising from circumstances beyond reasonable control.
